2012 IAPD Convention Member Council Meetings
As a result of feedback from the Leadership Summit, we are pleased to announce the first meetings of Member Councils dedicated to the various segments of IAPD.
Over the past several years, it has become apparent that the growth of our organization and the resultant diversity has limited our ability to involve all of the various parts in working toward our organizational goals. IAPD recognizes the uniqueness of the membership categories’ needs, particularly those of distributors, fabricators and manufacturers. Members have asked for the opportunity to network with like companies and discuss common issues with similar entities.
In response to our members’ needs, IAPD is inaugurating three member Councils at this year’s annual convention. These Councils will add to, not replace, our existing format. They will initially function as ad-hoc groups and, if the model is deemed successful, will evolve into part of our organizational process.
Role of Councils
The Councils will offer an opportunity for member companies to meet and talk about strategies and issues in the market and bring back ideas to IAPD about how to strengthen and grow the supply chain. It is our belief that the Council meetings will allow for the presentation of issues unique to each membership category and offer an opportunity for enhanced networking and sharing of best practices and challenges.
These Councils will allow for the consolidation of group issues and provide a single voice from the group in the General Membership Meetings and Leadership Summits. It is believed that this format will eliminate concerns about individual bias toward companies and any perceived fear of interfering with existing business relationships.
These Councils will not replace the existing Common Interest Groups (CIGs). Members may find that further segmentation of the Councils is needed in the future. Ultimately, we envision the Councils will meet separately from the convention in the future and become distinct voices in the association. Initially these Councils will be facilitated by a consultant, with the goal of setting up member leadership for each group. IAPD will dedicate an executive staff team member to each Council.
The IAPD Small Distributor Council will include member distributors and fabricators whose plastics distribution sales are equal to or less than US$19.9 million. Several companies represented in this membership segment will work with the facilitator and an IAPD executive staff member to create the agenda in advance. Following the meeting will be a cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for the participants of this meeting to network.
The Integrated Distributor Council will include all distributors and fabricators, small through large, plus stock shapes and PVF companies. This integrated Council will help the distribution supply chain identify opportunities and challenges facing distribution, external market forces affecting distribution, opportunities to improve relationships with suppliers and become a unified voice within the plastics distribution supply chain. All distributors and fabricators are welcome to attend.
The Manufacturers Council will include all IAPD manufacturer and resin manufacturer/distributor members. This Council will offer manufacturers an opportunity to discuss supply chain issues, expectations of their distribution partners and report back to IAPD and the other Councils about how IAPD may help facilitate better channel communications and meet the needs of IAPD manufacturer members.
Please make note of the following dates and times so you can attend and make these new Councils active and productive:
- Small Distributor Council meets on Tuesday October 23 from 3:30 -5:30 p.m.
- Integrated Distributor Council meets on Wednesday October 24 from 1:3 0- 3:00 p.m.
- Manufacturer Council meets on Wednesday October 24 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
We are all excited about the opportunity to try this new approach to better understand the needs of our members as we go forward into the future. We look forward to your participation and feedback.
