Laurie Warren Announces Retirement from IAPD, Whitney Nelson Hired
Laurie Warren, IAPD meetings and finance manager, will retire on November 1, 2013. Succeeding Warren in the new role as meeting and event manager is Whitney Nelson.
Warren has worked at IAPD for nearly eight years, managing the association’s meetings and accounting departments and personnel, planning all association meeting and events, acting as one of the staff liaisons for IAPD’s Convention and Exposition and Industry Research and Benchmarking Committees and overseeing the accounting and financial services of IAPD and its associated entities.
Among her many accomplishments, Warren was instrumental in working with the IAPD leadership and staff in broadening the scope of IAPD’s annual exposition (as part of its annual convention) from an industry-only audience to include an outreach to plastics end-users, designers, engineers and OEMs, educating the engineering community about plastics. In 2011, Warren helped expand IAPD’s regional golf events beyond the association’s longstanding Midwest and annual convention golf tournaments to include four additional regional golf outings. These events have raised $155,815, which helps fund IAPD’s annual scholarship program through the IAPD Charitable Foundation.
“Laurie has significantly contributed to the overall success of IAPD over the past eight years, helping to improve the association’s meetings and events and financial processes by working tirelessly to ensure the annual convention and exposition, as well as IAPD’s many other meetings and events, were executed as we desired and budgets were maintained” said IAPD CEO Susan E. Avery, CAE. “Laurie is an integral member of the IAPD team and I am saddened to see her leave. I, along with the rest of my staff, will miss her and wish her the best in her retirement. I am excited for Laurie’s launching of her freelance business and encourage members who are in need of event planning services to consult Laurie.”
In retirement, Warren will spend more time with her horses and dogs on her farm and plans to take a mission trip aiding in the welfare of animals. She anticipates pursuing freelance work with hopes of continuing to work with IAPD member companies. “I’m going to miss IAPD members the most,” said Warren. “I appreciate the relationships I’ve built and enjoyed seeing everyone at the annual convention and meeting new people there.”
Succeeding Warren, IAPD has hired Whitney Nelson as its new meetings and event manager. With more than 10 years of event planning and production experience in California and New York, Nelson has overseen the planning, logistics and client relations from small corporate and association events to high-profile, multi-million dollar events from concept through post-analysis in heavy volume business environments including the U.S. Tennis Open and U.S. Open Women’s Golf.
“I am pleased to announce the hiring of Whitney Nelson to the IAPD team,” said Avery. “Her extensive expertise in all sizes of events, including large scale and corporate events will play a prominent role in the future of IAPD’s meetings department and I am confident in her ability to manage and oversee all IAPD events and meetings.”
Warren and Nelson will work alongside each other until Warren’s retirement in November when Nelson will take over the meetings department as IAPD’s meeting and event director. Full responsibility of the accounting department will be overseen by IAPD’s accountant, Kipp Simmons, who will move into a management role.
