Revised Hazard Communication Standard Training Requirements — Deadline is December 1

OSHA has revised its Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) to align with the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) and published it in the Federal Register in March 2012 (77 FR 17574).

By December 1, 2013, employers must train employees on how to read GHS formatted labels and SDSs. Changes to labels are probably more substantial; however, employees need to understand where to find information on the SDS, especially in section 2 where criticalhazard information is located.
