Growing the Plastics Market
IAPD members work together to increase the use of plastics. As one member said, “We are not competing against each other. We are competing against the wood and metal industries.” By using members’ combined knowledge on everything plastics — from materials to applications — and sharing that information with end-users and the engineering community, IAPD is able to increase the use of plastics in all markets.
IAPD provides a number of opportunities to help you make contact with key decision makers in the plastics distribution industry.
The IAPD Annual Convention is the biggest event of the year, serving more than 500 people from the industry. The convention offers great opportunities for education and networking. The schedule includes educational sessions, workshops, networking events and the IAPD Plastics Exhibition. It is the ideal place to meet with your customers and business partners.
IAPD is the source for plastics distribution and manufacturing training tools, such as the Introduction to Plastics. IAPD also publishes The IAPD Magazine, the leading magazine focused exclusively on the plastic stock shapes and pipe, valves and fittings distribution industry, IAPD members and industry trends. The annual IAPD Source Guide is the most popular issue, serving as a complete cross-reference for products, materials and trade names of IAPD manufacturer and associated products and services members.
You can find instant information 24 hours a day, seven days a week, online at the magazine’s web site, www.theiapdmagazine.com. The site is your resource for the latest information on industry events and educational resources.
IAPD offers affordable interactive training tools for you and your employees in the form of training tools and face-to-face events. The IAPD Annual Convention features informative speakers on issues ranging from increasing sales to hiring the top people. There are also regional seminars on plastics applications as well as industrial distribution.
IAPD also offers an innovative online plastics certificate program. The program serves as a learning tool by allowing participants the ability to look up answers to questions they do not know. The program covers specific plastic properties, applications for plastics and sales.
IAPD educational materials are produced by members for members so you can be sure you’re getting exactly what your company needs.
IAPD will keep you updated on the latest plastics applications and markets, while helping you promote plastics and distribution. Regional seminars and articles in The IAPD Magazine educate end-users on the benefits of replacing other materials with plastics, and ads debunking the myths of distribution, as well as statistics that prove distribution works.
Strength in Numbers
With about 400 member companies representing more than 1,500 locations in over 40 countries, IAPD’s membership encompasses all segments of the plastics distribution industry: distributors, processors, manufacturers, resin manufacturers, manufacturers’ representatives and equipment and service providers. The association is also comprised of members of the European Plastics Distributors Association.
The IAPD Charitable Foundation was established as a non-profit tax exempt corporation to provide scholarships at the undergraduate level to employees or IAPD member companies and their dependents, as well as students majoring in polymer science or industrial distribution. The application deadline is February 1 of each year.
Increasing Inventory Turnover
E-plastics.org is IAPD’s web-based excess inventory program developed to help IAPD distributor and processor members liquidate excess or slow-moving inventory. It gives you another tool for operating more efficiently by providing a way to improve inventory turn. A distributor or processor member company can list up to 40 items at a time. The public is invited to search for specific kinds of plastics on this site to meet their needs.
